| Mombasa is the oldest and second biggest city in Kenya. Was originally called Man basa by the Arab traders of the 11th century. The town was a centre of trade primarily exporting Ivory and Slaves. Mombasa town retains almost unspoiled 18th and 19th century appearance and lifestyle, narrow streets, old buildings, busy waterfronts teeming with dhows and fascinating mix of people. Walking around Mombasa you can visit and stay in Mombasa Island in the Town. North Coast is connected to Mombasa Island through New Nyali Bridge. Crossing the Ferry you can visit South Coast linked to Mombasa Island through Likoni Ferry. Malindi / Watamu are still on the North Coast and Lamu is at furthest edge of the North before entering the Tana River Delta.
